NICK Carle will not be part of Sydney FC's plans in Season 8 after the club agreed to a one-year loan deal with UAE outfit Baniyas Sports Club.
The 30-year-old marquee and fans' favourite leaves for Abu Dhabi later this week, joining the growing number of Aussie players plying their trade in the Middle East.
It is understood Carle will join his new team-mates at a pre-season training camp in Portugal.
“This is a great opportunity for Nick and his family and we are pleased for him,” Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata said.
“Nick has been a great player for the club and a very good role model in the community and although we will miss him on and off the field he departs with our blessing.
“We have loaned Nick to Baniyas Sports Club for 12 months and we look forward to welcoming him back at Sydney FC in 12 months.”
Carle played in 42 A-League matches for Sydney FC and scored seven goals over the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.
The creative midfielder was grateful to the Sky Blues for agreeing to the deal: “I’d like to thank Sydney FC for allowing me to play in the UAE for the next 12 months,” Carle said.
“I have loved playing for Sydney FC and working with everyone at the club and I look forward to coming back next season (2013/14).
“I’d like to wish the team good luck for this season and I know they will do well under the leadership of Ian Crook, who has put together a strong squad that has been looking good in pre-season.”
Carle’s departure opens the door for Coach Ian Crook and Football Director Gary Cole to find a replacement for the fringe Socceroo with a marquee position and foreign spot still on the books.
Crook said it gave the club “a unique set of circumstances to work with”.
“It is disappointing that Nick is leaving Sydney FC but he has a great opportunity and we’ve already started the process of finding a replacement for this season,” Crook said.
