EXCLUSIVE: Gary Van Egmond's disintegrating Jets squad could be hit again with attacking full back Tarek Elrich being looked at by at least one Turkish Super League club.
Sources close to the versatile Elrich, who turned 22 on New Year's Day, say Turkish powerbrokers connected to at least two Turkish Super League clubs have watched him play live in the A-League over the last two months.
Elrich's performance for the Jets against Wellington Phoenix in round 12 is said to have made a particularly strong impression on the Turkish scouts.
Elrich's advisor Tony Rallis tells au.fourfourtwo.com that his preference is for the right back to stay another year in the A-League but conceded a move next June to Turkey was now possible.
"However, it's all in the timing and if such a move was right, we'd definitely consider it," Rallis said.
Elrich is set to play Asian Champions League football in the A-League off-season with the Jets' opponents announced tomorrow (Wed) by the Asian Football Confederation.
Turkey is becoming a real hotspot for Australian footballers. Harry Kewell has famously revitalised his career at Galatasaray while smaller club Genclerbirligi is now home to Aussie trio Bruce Djite, James Troisi and, most recently, Mile Jedinak.
Previously, Socceroos Mile Sterjovski, Joe Skoko and Nick Carle enjoyed stints in the Turkish Super League.
Meanwhile, the Jets' W-League finals campaign has been rocked by the bizarre accident involving midfielder Sammie Wood.
She was being towed on a tube behind a boat on Wyangala Dam near Cowra on Friday when a wave caused her knee to smash into her nose.
The force of the impact pushed her nose up into her skull and fractured the bone between her eye sockets, reports the Newcastle Herald.
The 17-year-old was taken to Orange Base Hospital on Saturday and placed in intensive care.
She has had fluid from her brain constantly leaking out her nose and has no taste or smell.
Doctors have told her family she is out of danger but will have an MRI scan in Orange this morning to determine if she needs surgery.
The Jets play Canberra on Saturday in their first ever W-League semi-final.
