It’s understood the Tasmania United FC taskforce have sounded out Bleiberg about a move to Tasmania should the island gain acceptance into the A-League.

While this might not be for four or five years at the earliest, it’s clear that Bleiberg’s ability to attract the media’s attention coupled with his attractive style of play has made a strong impression with locals.

Bleiberg has been centre of media attention in recent days with his comments urging locals to embrace the world game by pushing for an A-League franchise.

But as for coaching them, Bleiberg all but ruled out the proposition yet tantalizingly kept his options open adding he’d be happy to offer his football knowledge to a Tasmanian start-up club.

“Don’t forget I was the inaugural coach of Roar and inaugural coach of Gold Coast United, and also many years ago inaugural coach of the Brisbane Strikers, so I’ve got a bit of experience in establishing teams, so why not,” he said on Monday at Aurora Stadium which will host Bleiberg’s Gold Coast against Melbourne Victory this Wednesday.

“But I’m not after that job. I’m very selective and choosy about my career. My house was in Brisbane so I coached Roar.

“I’ve had other offers but the furthest I’ve gone is 45 minutes down the freeway to Gold Coast.

“I’m not a career coach. I coach when it suits me. But I’m not thinking that far. And there’s no reason for me to think of this type of job but again I’m one of the few surviving A-League coaches from season one.

“And obviously I’ve got some knowledge in what is needed but I’m not asking for a job.”

In team news Gold Coast trained on Monday morning before flying into Tasmania.

However midfielder Paul Beekmans will remain in Holland indefinitely for personal reasons. And Tasmanian keeper Jerrad Tyson will miss the Victory game due to a wrist injury.

Otherwise it is set to be the same team that was supposed to play Central Coast Mariners on the weekend before the game was washed out.

Far from it being a negative, Bleiberg said missing the Mariners clash would help his team.

He added: “We’re coming in fresher. I don’t have any injuries and that’s why I don’t have to change my squad. It’s an advantage.”
