New Gold Coast United striker Bruce Djite opened the round with a brilliant brace for Gold Coast United before the late winners began to flow.

A highly entertaining game at Bluetongue Stadium ended with defender Patrick Zwaanswijk heading home a late winner for the Mariners against the Fury.

It took Brisbane until the 95th minute to finally break through for a second, but it came courtesy of Todd Howarth bungling home into his own net.

For Adelaide, former Sydney FC youngster Iain Ramsay scored his third goal of the season to give the Reds a late win.

The Sky Blues pushed for their first win of the season, but it wasn’t to be in a round where the league’s top three showed it’s never too late.

A brilliant brace from Bruce Djite ensured Gold Coast United continued Wellington’s travel woes with a 3-1 win at Skilled Park.

There were as many goals in this game as there have been in the four previous games at Skilled Park this season.

The striker is beginning to fill the void left by the departure of Shane Smeltz, scoring two ripping goals and missing the easiest chance of the lot.

A brain snap from Kristian Rees handed the Phoenix a penalty to level early, despite having a goal disallowed for offside.

United showed off some impressive youngsters as well, with both Chris Harold and James Brown having an impact, the latter scoring the 100th goal of the current season.

Man of the match: Gold Coast United’s Bruce Djite (sorry Miron, Shane Djite) put in a classy outing, scoring two goals for GCU. His skill was, at times, simply breathtaking. Welcome back to the A-League Bruce!

Weakest Player: In a disappointing night for the Wellington Phoenix, goalkeeper Danny Vukovic had to pick the ball out of his net twice, arguably due to several errors on his part.  - ratings by Arabella Vaughan.

(Simon Storey 12’, Daniel McBreen (og) 78’)
Crowd: 6656 @ Bluetongue Stadium

It was an uncharacteristically action-packed 3-2 thriller at Bluetongue Stadium, won by the Mariners courtesy of a stoppage time header from Patrick Zwaanswijk.

The clash had it all but Fury eventually became the first team to lose after leading at half time this season.

Like the match at Skilled Park the night before, the five-goal tally equalled the amount of goals scored in the three games at Bluetongue Stadium prior.

Defender Simon Storey opened the scoring with his first ever goal with a deflected shot before Matt Simon capitalized on a Justin Pasfield parry early in the second half.

Fan favourite Patricio Perez finished from the spot for the second time this season after Daniel McBreen was brought down, before the latter buried a fine finish at the wrong end of the ground.

Zwaanswijk popped up soon after, connecting to a Michael McGlinchey cross to seal the three points.

Man of the match: Central Coast Mariners’ Michael McGlinchey absolutely tore North Queensland Fury apart. From his pace to his crossing, almost everything hetried worked for him; all that was missing was a goal.

Weakest Player: In such an entertaining game, it would be unfair to single out any player as having underperformed. - AV

Crowd: 9758 @ nib Stadium

Brisbane continued their impressive record against Perth and broke an eight-game losing run on the road with a 2-1 victory.

The open and free-flowing game showed how dangerous Roar can be with a renowned striker, having 24 shots but having to wait until the 95th minute to find the winner at nib Stadium.

The pressure continues to mount on Glory coach Dave Mitchell with Glory’s fourth-straight loss.

Roar midfielder Matt McKay dictated all the play from the middle of the park in another fantastic performance.

Man of the MatchBrisbane Roar skipper Matt McKay was immense throughout the entire contest; spreading passes and controlling the play from midfield. Mitch Nichols also proved to be the key to unlocking the Perth defence after doing everything that you could ask of a substitute.

Weakest Player Perth Glory’s Naum Sekulovski was unable to make any of his preferred attacking pushes down the flank and was troubled defensively when Brisbane right fullback Milan Susak made overlapping runs. - ratings by Matt Dorman

Adelaide United 2 (Shannon Cole (og) 57’, Iain Ramsay 90+1’)
Crowd: 7071 @ Sydney Football Stadium

A late goal from a former young star denied Sydney its first win as Iain Ramsay struck with another stoppage time winner this round.

Shannon Cole scored an unlucky own goal after Scott Jamieson appeared to be fouled and the Sky Blues attacked for a winner but were caught down the other end.

Makeshift striker Robert Cornthwaite beat two men before centring for Ramsay to hammer home.

One of the Killer Bs, Mark Bridge, appears to be lacking in confidence, heading a rare chance over the bar just before Ramsay’s winner.

Weakest Player Sydney FC can take some comfort in the overall performance of the team as no player was particularly poor. However, they also lacked any real standouts. - MD
