The FFA was forced to step in with a $300,000 loan to ensure players and staff were paid but the loan only covers the club until Monday and FFA chief Ben Buckley and his Jets counterpart John Tsatsimas both say the crowd at Friday's clash with the Glory will have a big bearing on the future.

But Thompson, who was a member of the Newcastle team that went all the way in 2007/08 before making the move south to be a foundation player with the Heart this season, has been impressed with the players' professionalism.

"If you're not getting paid in any job you're not happy, it is unfortunate," Thompson said before training on Friday ahead of his own team's clash with the Phoenix at AAMI Park on Sunday.

"I've got a lot of mates back at Newcastle and I've spoken to them."

"I'm not going to lie, they're obviously disappointed with the fact that they haven't been getting paid but for what it's worth I know for sure that it hasn't really affected them on the pitch, that's what I've been told."

"You go into every game, once you step over the chalk so to speak, you just play."

"Obviously being at the club for such a long time and for that to happen it is disappointing but like I said I'm more worried about what's happening with me here at the moment and I can't wait to get out there on Sunday."

On the pitch, Thompson is hoping to regain some of his best form after what he admits has been a scratchy start to the campaign following off-season ankle surgery.

"I'm not there yet (but) that's not the ankle's fault, that's just myself," Thompson said of his own form this season.

"I went into the first game not playing for a while but once I got through that the ankle was put behind me and it was just a matter of getting some form on the board."

But having made his Socceroos debut under former coach Pim Verbeek last year, Thompson is more concerned about getting back to his best for his club rather than worrying about trying to put his name in front of new Australia coach Holger Osieck.

"To be perfectly honest I haven't really thought about it too much (playing again for the Socceroos)," he said.

"Coming back from injury ... I just wanted to make sure that I was ready for that first game and now that I've done that I've got to try and make sure that I hit some form."

"You're not going to get picked if you're not playing up to scratch ... if it happens and I get the call-up then great but if I don't then obviously I haven't done enough here."

"I've got plenty of time to work on it but at the same time I want to get it right as soon as possible, not for the call-up but I definitely want to get some points on the table here with the Heart."
