EXCLUSIVE: Palmeiras arrive in Brisbane next week for a clash against Queensland with Roar hardman Danny Tiatto saying the A-League finalists want the scalp of the 2007 Brazilian champions.
"The mindset is every game we play, we want to win," Tiatto tells au.fourfourtwo.com. "It's been instilled into the club players at all levels."
Palmeiras comes with a reputation as one of Brazil's best clubs. The Verdão, or "Big Green", has six Brazilian league titles, four national cups and two continental titles in its trophy cabinet.
"I think they've won the league over there. It'll be a tough game but enjoyable and good to see how we're traveling in the off-season," added Tiatto.
Adding extra interest to this "Roar Against Racism" one-off fixture on July 12 at Suncorp is former Brazilian national team coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who will be in the opposite dugout to Frank Farina.
The pair coached against each other in Farina's first two games in charge of the Socceroos in 1999 when Brazil came to Australia.
Against Palmeiras, Roar is likely to parade new Dutch striker Sergio Van Dijk and exciting young talents Robbie Kruse, Tahj Minniecon, Michael Zullo and wing wizard Tommy Oar from Palm Beach.
"The talent and athleticism is there, and you have us older players like Craig [Moore] and myself to keep on their case and keep them heading in the right direction."
Meanwhile, the longer off-season in the A-League seems to be working for Tiatto, 35. The former Leicester City captain and Socceroo reckons it may just extend his career.
"Last year I had six weeks off then thrown into the deep end and I didn't have much of a pre-season behind me," he said.
"I'm not used to it but it's been good [this year]. Working with [fitness coach] Craig Starcevich has done wonders for me.
"At my age, to have a good season will get me strong and fit and it could in fact it could extend my career for a few more years."
