Trimboli said he was excited by the prospect of a new challenge.

“While I enjoyed my time with Brisbane Roar and made many great friends, Melbourne was always home, so when this opportunity presented itself, I felt that it was the right one for me," he said.

“Melbourne Victory’s fans are quite remarkable and they crave success, so it’s a great challenge and one that I’m extremely excited about.

“Ange and I have known one another for a very long time, so to be able to continue working alongside him – albeit at a different club – is a fantastic result for me.”

Having only been at the club for two months, Postecoglou has wasted no time building his back room team and Trimboli’s addition was seen as a vital component of his plans.

“We’re trying to build a new football department structure at the club and having someone of Paul’s capabilities behind the scenes was extremely important to me,” Postecoglou said.

“Not only was Paul a highly respected player, but the wide ranging experience he’s acquired since retiring has been very impressive too and I saw the benefits of his skills set first-hand at Brisbane Roar.

Trimboli starts with the club on Monday, July 2.
