After making his debut with the club in August 2006 at the age of 19, Kennedy has gone on to appear in 25 A-League matches andĀ five AFC Champions League games.

The 22-year-old Novocastrian had to bide his time as second choice to Socceroo Ante Covic for some time but will now have the opportunity to shine long-term with his hometown club.

"During his time at the club Ben has displayed not only what great potential he has on the field, but a great maturity and professional demeanour off it," said CEO John Tsatsimas.

"He is a Newcastle boy that has developed with the club over a period of many years and it's fantastic to see him claim the number 1 jersey."

Newcastle believe they have secured the services of a player who can only get better with time.

Tsatsimas added: "Obviously Ben has a great deal of natural talent, and he is quite young by goalkeeping standards so we look forward to watching him grow in stature in Jets colours over the next few years.

"Our club has always been prepared to give young players opportunities and through our talent identification and youth development processes this will continue with players like Ben throughout the foreseeable future."

Kennedy's retention comes ahead of the Jets' clash against Melbourne Victory at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Sunday.
