The 24-year-old custodian turned heads during the business end of Roar’s 2007/08 campaign when he deputised for Liam Reddy who was sidelined with a fractured thumb.

In his four appearances he produced some outstanding displays, notably in the 0-0 draw at Sydney Football Stadium in the first leg of the minor semi-final when he denied the rampant Sydney attack time and time again.

McMaster was unflustered by the pressure cooker atmosphere of those four critical fixtures, successfully making the transition into first team action.

After proving he is capable of keeping goal at A-League level he says the challenge now is to improve further and put even more pressure on first-choice gloveman, Liam Reddy.

“It was a satisfying first season but for me the work begins now. Undoubtedly my aim next season is to improve all aspects of my game and get more time on the field,” he said.

“I’ll be working even harder to get in the best possible physical shape and hopefully I can continue to add to my game.

“Frank [Farina] told me during the Finals Series that he would be offering me a new contract and I’m delighted to have signed,” McMaster concluded.
