Djite, who joined United from Genclerbirligi in late August as a direct replacement for the departing Shane Smeltz, had gone goalless in his first three games for the club but broke his duck with a first-half header in Sunday's draw.

Culina insisted he was always confident Djite, who he knows well from their time together with the Socceroos, would get off the mark sooner rather than later.

"I knew he would," he said. "He's been peppering at the goal in the last couple of weeks.

"He deserves it. He's been working very hard and every striker deserves a goal so I'm glad he's got one now."

Bleiberg added: "Bruce got to score his first goal and there's many more to come.

"Since Bruce joined us we're defending much better, we've conceded one goal in four games, if we continue like this it'll be okay. I'm happy and satisfied."

Bleiberg continued he had no complaints about John Curtis' sending-off which left United to hang on for the final 20 minutes of the match.

"I didn't see it but I believe according to all accounts he deserved a red card, so we're not complaining," Bleiberg said.

Culina admitted he saw Curtis' offence and labelled it 'stupid' when he summarised the game.

"We started off pretty slow and unfortunately went a goal behind, but we fought back, got a goal and in the end we conceded a stupid red card and had to defend for the last 20-odd minutes," he said.

"It made it difficult, but I'm proud of the boys."

Bleiberg added he felt his side showed great signs after a busy period where they played four games in 14 days, collecting two wins and two draws.

"We came here after a hectic week - the last game we played on Wednesday - so I think the boys did extremely well and I'm very proud," Bleiberg said.

"I think that's the sign of a top side, last year we were a bit of an entertainer and now we're solid."

Gold Coast, who are seventh on 10 points, face Wellington Phoenix at home next Friday.
