The incident took place in the early hours of Monday 16 November after the injured 23-year-old had been socialising with friends.

Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink said the player had apologised to the club and has accepted full responsibility for his actions.

"Robson realises he has committed a very serious offence and he is both apologetic and embarrassed," Mensink said.

"He will fully accept the punishment handed down by the courts and the club will also be issuing its own sanction on the player.

"We do not in any way condone drink driving and will treat the matter with the seriousness it warrants. We will however endeavour to correct his behaviour through education and be supportive of him through that process."
