RODDY Vargas is free to return to boost Melbourne Victory's backline after the FFA backed down on his two match ban following his red card against the Mariners.
Victory had appealed against the bans handed down for Vargas and Joe Keenan, but Keenan's three match ban was upheld.
Vargas was banned for two matches but the FFA Disciplinary Committee this evening suspended the second week of the ban, allowing him to play this weekend.
Victory have been struggling to field a proper defence as a result of bans, injuries and national team duties.
The FFA Disciplinary Committee also confirmed Rodrigo Vargas's two (2) match suspension for violent conduct but determined that one of these would be suspended and will be activated should Vargas receive a yellow card or red card in his first match back from serving his suspension," said an FFA statement.
"This decision means that Vargas, having served a one match suspension last weekend, will now be eligible for selection for Melbourne Victory's fixture against Queensland Roar."
