Vasilevski, 25, was signed from Victorian Premier League side Altona Magic, after previous stints with Perth Glory in the Hyundai A-League, and Melbourne Knights and Carlton SC in the former National Soccer League.

Victory coach Ernie Merrick had no hesitation in signing his former Victorian Institute of Sport protégé after an impressive substitute’s performance in the Pre-Season Cup match against Newcastle Jets in Geelong recently.

For Vasilevski, the opportunity to play for his hometown club in the country’s premier competition was impossible to refuse.

“It really is a dream come true for me, to play in my home town with the Hyundai A-League Champions,” Vasilevski told the club's website. “It’s perfect, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

“It was tough going over to Perth and then coming back and having to start all over again. But the promise of playing in the A-League gives you something to strive for.

"Every player in the state leagues now knows that they could get picked up for an A-League side.”

Vasilevski believes that the opportunities provided by the A-League are having a positive effect on football at all levels of the game.

“I think players all over the country are working harder than ever before with the prospect of playing in front of big crowds and top-class stadiums,"he said.

"It’s difficult staying focused on training in a part-time setup , but the lure of the A-League helps you put in the extra ten or twenty percent you need to maintain a professional standard.”

Victory’s Football Operations Manager, Gary Cole, welcomed Vasilevski to the club.

“Daniel is a valuable addition to our squad,” Cole said. “We’d like to welcome him here to Melbourne Victory and hope he can make the most of the opportunity.”

Vasilevski will wear number 17 for Victory in the upcoming Hyundai A-League season.
