MELBOURNE Victory striker Danny Allsopp has retired, effective immediately, the club announced this evening as new coach Ange Postecoglou stamps his mark on the side.

Since joining the club in season one, the 34 year-old scored 42 goals in 118 A-League appearances.
His decision to quit brings an end to a career that spanning 17 years, more than 400 professional games and 160 goals.
The striker was pivotal to the club's early success, helping Victory to two title doubles and was twice awarded the Victory Medal and took out the A-League’s Golden Boot in 2006/07.
Allsopp joined Victory from English club Hull City and earned selection at every level of national team selection (U17, U20, U23 and Socceroos) as well as the Golden Boot at the Under-17s World Cup in Ecuador.
He was also twice named ‘Players’ Player of the Year’, first at Notts County in England and then at Melbourne Victory
“I’ve received amazing support over the years and there are so many people who have contributed to my career and I’d like to thank each and every one of them," Allsopp said in a statement released by the club today.
“I’m extremely proud of what I have achieved throughout my career and football has allowed me to play in leagues across four different continents, including the English Premier League, and those experiences will stay with me forever.
“There have been many highlights along the way, and obviously the great success we enjoyed will always stay with me, but I feel very proud to have been a part of such an exciting period for not only this club, but the A-League and our sport in Australia.”
“Now is the right time to move onto the next chapter of my life."
Melbourne Victory Coach Ange Postecoglou added: “Danny has been a very loyal servant to this club and has enjoyed a fantastic career, so we certainly wish him well.
“His record speaks for itself and to do what he has done over such a long career is testament to his commitment and professionalism.”
The club will honour Danny before the Round 5 clash with Wellington Phoenix at Etihad Stadium, when fans can farewell him.
