EXCLUSIVE: Melbourne Victory midfielder Joe Keenan is in the mix to sign with Scottish club Hibernian ahead of the club's InterToto Cup campaign and a glamour off-season friendly against Barcelona.
It's known that Keenan is keen to continue his career in Europe despite having one year left on his contract at Telstra Dome. He is currently one of a number of trialists hoping to impress Easter Road boss Mixu Paatelainen.
Keenan told au.fourfourtwo.com before leaving Australia that he'd enjoyed his spell in the A-League. "It was great, and the club's [Victory] great too but right now I'm thinking about moving back to Europe."
Victory boss Ernie Merrick informed the Englishman last month that he is free to find another club after a 15-month spell with the Victorian A-League franchise, a stint which included 12 appearances and 10 starts in season 2007/8.
Keenan, a former Chelsea player, left Australia on May 31 after a few days trialing with Newcastle Jets, where the wingback played in a trial match against local NBN state league opposition.
The 25-year-old former graduate of England's elite Lilleshall academy was not included in Victory's ACL squad during the A-League off-season with the three-visa player rule squeezing him out of contention.
The north Edinburgh club has been undergoing daily double sessions ahead of this Sunday's InterToto Cup clash with the Swedish side Elfsborg.
After that two-legged fixture come glamour off-season friendlies against Barcelona in Scotland as well as hit outs against Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic.
