Skipper Travis Dodd scored the only goal of the game as United defeated Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Adelaide were the only A-League side to win in round one, leaving them top of the pile.

Vidmar said: "I think we were a little bit rusty at times in the first half but in the second half I thought we got a little bit more cohesion, so I’m really pleased with the way they finished off the game.

"We created some decent opportunities and proably on a good day in front of goal we could have easily finished the game off two or three nil. I'm pretty pleased with the whole input from everyone.

"There were seven or eight players who were playing for the first time so it's a little bit normal that they want tio impress first up. We were overdoing it a little bit in the first half.

"I think they'll all be pretty pleased to get their first game out of the way and I'm sure over the next two or three weeks they'll start to really gel into the team.

“There is still a lot of football to be played but winning tonight was a real positive and not conceding a goal again, that was very pleasing."

Vidmar paid tribute to goalscorer Dodd, who netted in his 100th appearance for the club.

“I’m really pleased for Travis. Those 100 games have flown by pretty quickly and it was a good goal," said Vidmar.
