WOLVES manager Mick McCarthy has made his first signing of the summer, bringing Bournemouth striker Sam Vokes to Molineux for an undisclosed fee.
The 18-year-old, called into the full Wales squad for the first time on Monday for the friendlies against Iceland and Holland, scored 12 goals this season but could not prevent the Cherries from being relegated to League Two.
Vokes, 18, has completed his medical and signed a four-year deal with the Coca-Cola Championship club, who missed out on a play-off place to Watford on goal difference.
McCarthy told www.wolves.co.uk: "Sam is a great young talent who our scouts have been watching for some time. I saw him when he played for the Wales Under-21s against England last week and he was excellent.
"He is a target man who is physical, strong and good in the air. He was involved in a real scrap in trying to keep Bournemouth up at the end of the season. It was tough but will have been a good experience for such a young player.
"I have been impressed with him and I think he is quite capable of doing well in this league despite his tender years."
NORWICH captain Mark Fotheringham has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Carrow Road.
The 24-year-old was signed by former manager Peter Grant in January 2007 and after a slow start has become an integral part of Glenn Roeder's side.
He told the club's official website, www.canaries.co.uk: "I would like to thank the fans for their support last year after a disappointing season.
"I am delighted to have signed for another season.
"There's only one thing on my mind coming back for pre-season - to push as hard as humanly possible to reach the Premier League."
QPR midfielder Martin Rowlands has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendlies with Serbia and Colombia with an ankle injury.
Rowlands, recalled to the squad by new boss Giovanni Trapattoni after a four-year absence, has had a scan after sustaining the problem in training.
PORT VALE have completed the signing of David Howland on a two-year deal.
The midfielder spent three months on loan at Vale Park from Birmingham between January and April and has now made the move permanent.
DARLINGTON duo Nick Liversidge and Lewis Hardman have both been handed new one-year deals.
GRIMSBY have confirmed that they have made an enquiry about NORTHAMPTON striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.
The former Swansea striker is out of contract but has been offered a new deal to stay with the Cobblers and has also been in talks with Leyton Orient.
Grimsby assistant manager Stuart Watkiss said: "He is a player that we have certainly enquired about."
