Burns was handed a two-game suspension for an off the ball incident with Central Coast counterpart John Hutchinson in the Mariner’s 2-1 win over the Glory at nib Stadium last Saturday.

Glory will now be without their skipper for the clash against the Roar this weekend at Suncorp Stadium and their home game the following week against Wellington Phoenix.

Vukovic was stunned by the ban on his captain but says the opportunity now exists for some of the younger players on the Glory roster to prove their worth.

“I think it’s very harsh,” Vukovic said. “I’ve seen a few things this season in other games where players have gotten away with much worse than what Jacob did and weren’t punished.

“It’s a tough one to take but the decision has been made and we need to move on now and get on with it.

“We’ve got an important game this weekend and that’s the focus.

“There’s an opportunity there for some young boys to come in and show what they can do.

“Everyone’s excited about going over to Brisbane, even though it’s a tough place to go to and get a result, but this is why you play football - for these tough games.”

Glory have endured an up and down start to their season, with two wins and two losses in their opening seven fixtures.

One of those losses came last week in their clash with the Mariners, with Mitch Duke’s injury-time winner sealing the three points for the away side.

Despite the loss Vukovic admits there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

“It was obviously disappointing to end up losing but I thought we dominated most of that game” he said.

“Even when we went down to 10 men through Jamieson’s injury we still dominated.

“We could have easily won that game, so there were more positives than negatives to come out of it.
“We’re playing some good football so we’re certainly not panicking at the moment after one loss.

“Obviously it’s a massive game against Brisbane this weekend so we’ll need to be playing our best to go over there and get a result.”
