The 31-year-old Costa Rican striker, who played at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, is set to be officially presented by the MLS side in a press conference tomorrow.

"Wanchope has passed his medical and agreed all the details of his contract with the (club) president," said Chicago Fire's press officer Dan Jankowski.

"We expect to sign the contract and give a press conference on Friday."

Wanchope will be Chicago's second international star signing, following Mexico international Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who scored in his Fire debut last Sunday.

Wanchope played in England with Derby, West Ham and Man City and was linked with possible marquee contracts at several A-League clubs for next season.

He left England in 2004 to join Spanish outfit Malaga. Since then Wanchope has played with Qatar's Al-Gharafa, Costa Rica's CS Herediano, Argentina's Rosario Central and Japanese club FC Tokyo.
