Sporting Lisbon fans managed to accidentally set fire to their own stand at Jose Alvalade Stadium this past Saturday against table-toppers FC Porto.

The fire began as Sporting players made their way on to the pitch, with supporters throwing paper streamers towards the field.

The streamer then caught fire due to a flare in the supporter's area and covered about three rows of seats in the stands as supporters quickly moved away.

No injuries were reported as the fire was quickly put out by stadium security.

This incident comes after reports in May last year that 50 hooded Sporting Lisbon ultras had stormed the club's training facilities and beat up their own players after they failed to gain a Champions League spot.

The assault resulted in striker Bas Dost receiving stitches in hospital.

It's safe to say the Sporting Lisbon supporters are becoming well-known for their controversial manner after this most recent incident.

The fire was the most noteworthy moment to take place during the game against Porto as the high-profile rivalry finished 0-0.

Porto remain on top of the Portuguese league, while Sporting find themselves in fourth position.
