EXCLUSIVE: Gold Coast United boss Miron Bleiberg says both 'officers and soldiers' are essential if the club is to taste success in its debut season.
While the capture of Jason Culina has grabbed a large chunk of the headlines with much also expected of Shane Smeltz, Bleiberg is swift to point out that one or two players, however impressive their cv's, are not going to win matches.
Bleiberg is happy with the big name additions but also those who may not be quite so familiar to supporters.
"We are very happy to have Jason (Culina) and Shane (Smeltz) and we are hopeful they can do well for us," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
"But it is not about a few players, it is about a squad. We need both officers and soldiers out there. You cannot have all of one group and none of the others."
Smeltz has already struck 11 goals in warm-up fixtures and Culina should join up with his new teammates next month after completing his Dutch season with PSV Eindhoven yesterday.
Gold Coast continue their pre-season preparations later this week (Tuesday) with a scheduled friendly fixture against Nerang at Glennon Park.
