Ernie Merrick said before the match “Two teams will be determined to take three points” but it was Newcastle Jets who took the game to Western Sydney Wanderers, putting five past an indifferent, outplayed side.
Marc Tokich – 5.5
Poor give away. Gave a penalty away with a late tackle on Vargas and Hoffman.
Roly Bonevacia – 7.5
One of the few players who showed any intent, pace and energy but sadly wasn’t supported enough. Subbed 67th minute
Oriol Riera – 6
Decent strike but it was a good save from Glen Moss. Too casual at times though.
Bruce Kamau – 7
Two tame shots on goal mid-way through the first-half. Kept running and trying to create something but he was not being supported when they counter-attacked. Subbed 71st minute.
Subs
Mitchell Duke – 6
Returned to the A-League and scored with his first impact, a great run into the box from the corner, then a superb header guiding the ball top right-side. Brilliant strike late on in the second-half.
Jaushua Sotirio – 6
On for Kamau. Injected pace and energy, getting involved from the out-set.
Tate Russell – 6
On for Risdon. Couple of runs but nothing of note.
