The issue is something of a hot topic at present but the defender, while anxious to see offenders punished, isn't getting too hot under the collar about it.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com today: "It's not something (diving) anyone wants to see in the game but to be honest I don't think it's an issue that we've been talking about much since the start of the A-League.

"I don't think there's any need to get a video situation involved here. Referees are paid to make decisions.

"I know it's something that they want to clamp down on now and it might also have the effect of making a player (thinking of taking a dive) think twice."

Wilkinson and his colleagues are busy preparing for Saturday's A-League clash with Adelaide United and insists the Reds' massive ACL clash tonight won't fool anyone at Bluetongue into thinking they will have an easy ride this weekend.

Adelaide will either be celebrating or licking their wounds but Wilkinson believes the challenge will be the same - a very tough one.

He said: "They've backed up pretty well so far in the games after a Champions League fixture in midweek and I'm not expecting it to be any different this time.

"Hopefully they can come into the game on the back of having won the Champions League. It would be great for them and for the game in Australia."

The last encounter between the two teams in round seven was cracking entertainment for the neutral observer. Central Cost went 3-0 down before launching a fightback to secure a 3-3 draw.

They did the same again against Sydney FC but Wilkinson is hoping for a rather less exciting encounter this weekend.

He said: "I think those 3-3 draws have added a few years to the players. It might be exciting for some people but I think I'd rather settle for a 1-0 win to be honest."
