The 22-year-old nodded home the decisive goal in the 2-1 World Cup qualifying victory at Hampden after Stephen McManus had headed Ross McCormack's corner into the danger zone.

Fletcher admitted seeing the ball hit the net was as good as helping Hibs win the CIS Cup at the national stadium with a 5-1 win over Kilmarnock in 2007.

"I was absolutely delighted to get three points and my first goal as well," the striker said.

"Big Mick put the ball back across goal and I just reacted and put it in the back of the net.

"I was absolutely delighted to see it hit the back of the net. It's a great feeling, to score at Hampden as well.

"I've always wanted to play for my country but to score a goal is great.

"I won a trophy with Hibs and scoring a goal for Scotland as well is a dream."

The victory came amid a day of controversy after it emerged skipper Barry Ferguson and goalkeeper Allan McGregor had been dropped following a drinking session at the team hotel.

"It was a slight mistake from the boys but we got through it with a good performance," Fletcher added.
