EXCLUSIVE: Michael Zullo is confident Roar will find a fresh goalscorer but says fans might not really miss something till it’s gone.
The flying winger is looking forward to resuming training later this month as the Brisbane boys began preparations for the fourth season of the A-League.
As it stands, the only new faces at the club are youngsters David Dodd and Tim Smits who signed in February.
Coach Farina has recently been on a trip to Brazil though with the Roar having recently agreed a partnership deal with Athletico Miniero.
That may yet yield a loan deal or two but Zullo feels the departure of a Brazilian from the club should not be underestimated.
Reinaldo moved on at the end of last season and while he was a player that divided opinion, Zullo feels they are significant shoes to fill.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: “I’m sure Frank will be looking to bring in new faces, including a striker.
"Obviously Reinaldo has gone and I’m not sure that people realised just how important he was to us. He did get booed at times but his contribution was never lost on the coach or the boys. For me, his work rate was really underrated.
“Given time I think people will come to realise just how important he was.”
While Farina works to secure new players, Zullo is impressed by the two players already guaranteed to be on the Roar roster next season.
He said: “It’s great to see more young players like myself, Robbie (Kruse) and Tahj (Minniecon) coming into the club.
"I’ve played against both David (Dodd) and Tim (Smits) in the local league. They’re both very competitive players and I’m sure they will add something to the squad.”
As for Zullo himself, he is looking to bounce back after missing out on the chance of a senior Socceroos cap through injury.
A knee niggle picked up in a gym session prevented him from travelling to Singapore after he was called up by Pim Verbeek but it is the Olympics rather than the World Cup which is in his immediate sights.
He said: “I just want to work hard and be a part of the Olympics in Beijing. That’s a massive goal for me.”
