ROAR flyer Michael Zullo is keeping his feet on the ground after starring in Queensland's first home win of the season last weekend.
But Zullo, 18, isn't buying into the “hectic” media attention he and Kruse have received since in Brisbane
“It was a brilliant night. It's all good stuff,” Zullo told au.fourfourtwo.com.
It was Zullo's cracking strike that gave Frank Farina's men an early lead against Phoenix at Suncorp. And just before the break, the teen set up fellow teenager Robbie Kruse for his debut goal in an eventual 2-1 win.
The victory broke the so-called Suncorp hoodoo. “I don't know about this hoodoo at home,” added Zullo. “I think sometimes it's just luck.
“The previous week I had a header which hit the post, last week my shot just went in. That's how football can be.”
While Roar coach Frank Farina is playing down suggestions Zullo and his friend – and former strike partner from their junior days – Robbie Kruse will start this weekend, there's little doubt they will be used at some point.
“Obviously Frank will make that call,” said Zullo, “but if he goes with the same formation, we're ready to play.
“Everyone's trying to play the match down and look ahead to this week's game with Central Coast, which is a solid team. They aren't on the top of the table for nothing.”
Zullo also revealed that the after-match celebrations were somewhat muted.
“It was Robbie's birthday but we were both so tired we could barely walk. Neither of us went out after," he added.
“We can't get too carried, there's a long way to go in our careers. Frank has been a calming influence this week.”
