MOSCOW, June 4 (Sputnik) - According to the Russian club Akhmat Grozny President Magomed Daudov, the club's defender Andrei Semyonov deserved his place in the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
"Andrei earned his right to take part in the most prestigious football tournament with [his] professional attitude. He is a key player of our club and one of the best defenders of [Russian] Premier League. I must admit it is a great pleasure and joy to know that the player of our favorite club Akhmat will play at the tournament. I wish Andrei and our national team good luck, good performance... and beautiful game," Daudov said as quoted by the club's website.
Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov named his final 23-man squad for the upcoming tournament on Sunday.
The 2018 World Cup gets underway on June 14, with the final to be played on July 15.
Russia have been drawn in Group A along with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay.
