"We expect at least 1.5 million people to visit Moscow, who will be impressed by what they will see, not only by football but by the beauty of the Russian capital as well," Chernikov said.

He also said that fans' safety was a top priority for the Moscow authorities.

"I would like to add that Moscow is ready for the 2018 World Cup as a city, as the Russian capital, and as the city that will host the most World Cup matches," Chernikov said.

Moscow will host a total of 12 games, including the opener between Russia and Saudi Arabia on June 14 and the final on July 15, with both matches set to be held at the 81,000-seater Luzhniki Stadium.
