INNSBRUCK, May 29 (Sputnik) - Austria’s head coach Franco Foda praised Russia striker Fedor Smolov, as well as four midfielders, including Alan Dzagoev and Aleksandr Samedov, who will play against his squad in a friendly in Innsbruck on Wednesday.
"The Russia players will have a chance to prove that they deserve to be on the final squad for the World Cup. Cherchesov’s squad can quickly transition from defense to offense, they are good at counterpressing after losing the ball. I can point out Fedor Smolov, Aleksandr Golovin, Alan Dzagoev, Aleksandr Samedov and Aleksandr Erokhin. Our team is not a weak one either and have something to offer to the opponents,” Foda told journalists.
He added that Russia often change their formation in the course of a game but Austria will be prepared for it. Foda also wished the Russian squad good luck at the upcoming tournament as his team did not qualify for the World Cup.
Stanislav Cherchesov's men have been training in the Austrian town of Neustift since May 20 and are set to play a friendly match against Austria on Wednesday before departing home a day later.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities, with the host nation facing Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
