KAZAN, July 7 (Sputnik) - Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne said on Saturday that his side's 2-1 win over Brazil in their World Cup quarter-final match was a "victory of character."
De Bruyne was named the man of the match in Friday's World Cup quarter-final as he helped Belgium beat Brazil 2-1 in Kazan by doubling his side’s lead in the 31st minute.
"I think we've changed the tactics a little bit. We took the risk and left [Belgium striker Romelu] Lukaku well ahead, as we hoped that he would create scoring opportunities. We were playing very well in the first half of the match, we created many moments, but we changed our tactics... in the second half, which Brazil benefited from. When we came to the 2-1 scoring, we tried to do our best in order not to concede a goal and to push it through to victory. This was a victory of character," De Bruyne told journalists.
Belgium are through to the semi-finals, where they will face 1998 winners France in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
