YEKATERINBURG, June 21 (Sputnik) - France head coach Didier Deschamps says his team cannot always win World Cup games easily, after his team earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Peru and moved to the round of 16.
"We can’t always win easily. We need to be able to adapt to what is happening on the pitch. We started to sit back in defense because Farfan was brought on and because we started to lose possession of the ball... Right now we need to take some rest and prepare for our third game in order to secure the first place in the group," Deschamps said.
He added that his team did "everything they needed to win" in their second match at the World Cup and this "victory opened the doors to the knockout stage" for France.
France are currently top of the group with six points. Denmark are second with four points, while Peru have been knocked out after failing to win their first two matches.
