On Sunday spokesperson of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Daniel Holtgen thanked Russia for hosting the 2018 World Cup and congratulated finalists France and Croatia.
France secured their second title after beating Croatia 4-2 in the World Cup final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
"The Council of Europe in Strasbourg congratulates its host country France on winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and Croatia on a well-deserved 2nd place. Thanks Russia for hosting a fantastic World Cup! Let the spirit of sports continue!!" Holtgen wrote on his Twitter.
