MOSCOW, July 12 (Sputnik) - Belgium defender Thomas Meunier said on Thursday that Belgium wanted to beat England again in order to finish third at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Belgium, who lost 1-0 to France in the semi-finals on Tuesday, will take on England, who were defeated 2-1 by Croatia in the second semi-final on Wednesday, in the third-place match in St. Petersburg on Saturday.
The two teams have already met at this summer's tournament in the group stage, with Belgium beating England 1-0 on June 28.
"We want to write history with a third place. We have beaten England in the group phase and we want to do that again. Also England wants to become third. But I think we are better. We have to respect England but also ourselves. That is why we want to win in St. Petersburg," Meunier said, as quoted by the team's official Twitter account.
He added that the 2018 FIFA World Cup was successful for his team even if they do not manage to finish in third place.
Belgium played in the World Cup semi-finals for a second time after also reaching the last four in Mexico in 1986, where they went on to lose to France in the third-place match.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
