"I'm not saying that we have launched a bid and made a decision. We are just considering the idea and assessing our chances," Sobhy said as quoted by the Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk.

According to Sobhy, before making any further steps, his ministry wants to draw up a definite plan of preparing for the international event.

"We need to build six additional stadiums, choose the suitable cities, look into the infrastructure. We are going to consult with the business to see what they can do for us, then we will decide on the bid," the minister said.

Earlier, media reported that Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco could launch a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup. It was also reported that Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, who hosted the inaugural tournament in 1930, could also bid for the Centennial World Cup.

On Sunday, the 21th World Cup came to a close in Russia, with France defeating Croatia 4-2 to lift the World Cup trophy for the second time. The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar.
