NEUSTIFT IM STUBAITAL, May 28 (Sputnik) - Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev said Monday that the possible absence of Egypt star striker Mohamed Salah at this summer's FIFA World Cup in Russia would be a loss for the whole tournament.
"It was an in-game episode [Salah's clash with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos]. Did he [Ramos] do it on purpose? I don't know. It's a pity when such players [as Salah] miss such large-scale tournaments. I wish everyone did their best at such tournaments [as the World Cup]. It will be a loss for the Mundial, of course," Dzagoev told journalists.
The Liverpool forward got his shoulder ligaments damaged in the 31st minute of the Champions League 3-1 loss to Real Madrid on Saturday.
Egyptian Sports Minister Khaled Abd Elaziz said Sunday that the 25-year-old was expected to recover in the next two weeks and would be included in Egypt’s 23-man World Cup squad, but the injury cast doubts on his participation in the tournament.
Russia will host its first-ever FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, the matches will take place at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the country.
