The Egyptian Parliament's Committee of Youth Affairs and Sports has demanded an investigation should be launched into the national team's failure at this year's World Cup, a member of the committee told Sputnik on Wednesday.
Egypt, who took part in their first World Cup since 1990, were eliminated from the tournament after losing all of their three group-stage games, including two against the tournament's lowest-ranked teams, Saudi Arabia and Russia.
"Some members of the Egyptian Parliament's Youth Affairs and Sports Committee have demanded to launch an investigation into the results of the national football team's performance at the World Cup in Russia... The reasons for the failure of the Egyptian Football Association to achieve positive results at the World Cup given the perfect starting opportunities will be subject to a discussion as well," the member said.
He added that the investigation would begin next week within the committee and would remain internal for the time being.
