MOSCOW, July 17 (Sputnik) - A law that would enable foreigners, holding a Fan ID of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, to visit Russia without a visa till the end of the year might be adopted by the country's parliament by the end of July, Yelena Afanasyeva, the deputy chair of the Russian upper house's Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, said on Tuesday.
The draft law was submitted to the Russian parliament earlier on Tuesday. The bill was inspired by the positive experience of holding the FIFA World Cup and proposes to extend the visa-free regime for Fan ID's holders to December 31, 2018.
"I believe, it is feasible that the bill will be adopted by the State Duma and endorsed by the Federation Council by the end of the spring session. Especially, taking into account the fact that the country's leadership's position on the issue is clear," Afanasyeva said.
She added that the last meeting of the Federation Council as part of the current spring session will be held on July 28.
The Fan ID, a FIFA-issued identification card all match ticket holders needed to enter World Cup stadiums, replaced usually strict Russian visas.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday, with France beating Croatia 4-2 in the final. The matches were played in 11 cities across Russia.
