A video appeared on social media on Saturday night showing Vida shouting 'Glory to Ukraine!' and former Croatia midfielder Ognjen Vukojevic saying "This is a victory for Dynamo [Kiev] and Ukraine."

Both Vida and Vukojevic played for Ukrainian Premier League club Dynamo Kiev.

"Political, nationalist or racist statements are not welcome at the World Cup. So I am confident that FIFA should give a sharp and tough response... Such actions should be punished," Svishchev said.

He added that making such public comments was "impolite" given that Russia was trying to pay as much attention as possible to everyone at the tournament.

Hosts Russia were defeated 4-3 on penalties by Croatia in the quarter-final and were eliminated from the tournament, while Croatia advanced to the next round and will now take on England at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final set to be played at the Luzhniki Stadium.
