MOSCOW, May 29 (Sputnik) - The FIFA World Cup Trophy, which arrived in the Russian city of St.Petersburg on Saturday, will be put on display at a special tent at the St.Petersburg stadium on Tuesday, the tour organizers told Sputnik.
The prestigious prize will be displayed in St. Petersburg until June 2 and then will be moved back to Moscow. The special tent will be open for visitors from 12:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time (from 9:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. GMT), giving everyone a chance to see the iconic trophy and take a photo, according to the tour organizers.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour kicked off in Moscow in September. The trophy visited 16 Russian cities before the international leg of the tour began in London in January. It then traveled to a total of 51 countries.
The prize is awarded to the winners of the FIFA World Cup football, while remaining the property of the organization. It is made of 18 carat gold with a malachite base and depicts two human figures holding the Earth. According to FIFA regulations, only the winners of the tournament and heads of states are allowed to touch the trophy.
Russia will host its fist FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The matches will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
