Sweden midfielder Emil Forsberg said on Saturday that his team were “shocked” when England scored for the first time and struggled to recover from it later in the game, which resulted in Gareth Southgate’s side winning 2-0 in Samara.
“We knew it was going to be a difficult game, we were ready for it. We executed the plan well and tried to do everything we could, use every chance we got. We tried to control the ball as much as we could, but unfortunately lost possession too many times. And we lost our energy after [England’s] first score. We were shocked by it,” Forsberg told journalists.
He added that the team were proud of all the hard work they did and of making it to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
England will next face Russia or Croatia at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday.
