KAZAN, June 29 (Sputnik) - France defender Benjamin Mendy will miss the FIFA World Cup round of 16 match against Argentina on Saturday due to an injury, head coach Didier Deschamps said on Friday.
"Mendy has a minor injury. He will not play tomorrow," Deschamps told journalists.
The 23-year-old participated only in one game for his side at this summer's World Cup. He appeared on the pitch in the 50th minute in France's final group-stage match against Denmark on Tuesday.
Mendy returned to the pitch just before the World Cup after being sidelined with a knee injury for nearly seven months.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
