MOSCOW, July 15 (Sputnik) - France head coach Didier Deschamps thanked Russia for a "wonderful World Cup" following his side's 2018 FIFA World Cup victory.
On Sunday, France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium to lift their second World Cup trophy.
"The World Cup was wonderful, everything was great, but it finished too quickly. Much quicker than [the 2014 FIFA World Cup] in Brazil. Russia and FIFA did everything at a maximum high level. The security was perfect, the referees' work was perfect. It was a wonderful football festival, thank you very much to Russia," Deschamps told journalists.
The head coach added that his side had gained confidence after their 4-3 victory over Argentina.
"The [group-stage] match against Peru [that ended in a 1-0 victory to France] was very tough, the third match against Denmark [that ended in a 0-0 draw] was also quite difficult... Our victory over Argentina [in the round of 16] boosted our psychological confidence," Deschamps said.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday with 64 games played in 11 cities across the country.
