MOSCOW, June 1 (Sputnik) - FC Bayern and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is likely to play in a friendly against Austria but it is yet to be decided whether he will be named in the country's final FIFA World Cup squad, Germany head coach Joachim Low said Friday.
"He took part in every training session and had no problems. I think he'll stand in the goal. I want to talk to Manu again tonight, and if everything is fine, then he'll play," Low told journalists when asked about Neuer's participation in Saturday's warm-up match against Austria.
Low added that he would decide whether Neuer would travel to Russia for the World Cup after talking to the goalkeeper.
"Manuel will tell us honestly whether he can reach his top level, and we'll make the final decision on Sunday," the head coach said.
Low also said that defender Jerome Boateng, who had been recovering from a hamstring injury since late April, was not fully fit yet.
Neuer won the award for the best goalkeeper of the year four times in a row and claimed the Golden Glove as the best keeper at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He suffered two consecutive foot fractures in April and September 2017 and has barely played ever since but has been training with Germany's preliminary World Cup squad in Italy.
Russia’s first-ever FIFA World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 15 at 12 arenas in 11 cities across the country, with reigning champions Germany facing Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in Group F.
