Uruguay captain Diego Godin said on Thursday that striker Mohamed Salah's participation in their World Cup game against Egypt would not affect the their preparations.
Earlier on Thursday, Egypt head coach Hector Cuper said that Salah, who was injured in the UEFA Champions League final at the end of May, was almost certain to play against Uruguay.
"We have been preparing for this tournament for a long time and our preparations don't depend on one player. Salah is quite a defining player in his team, but our preparations do not depend on his participation in the game. We are focused," Godin told journalists.
Two-time champions Uruguay will kick off their World Cup campaign against Egypt in Yekaterinburg on Friday.
The tournament got underway on Thursday, with hosts Russia playing Saudi Arabia. The final set is to be played on 15 July.
