Iceland suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Croatia in Rostov-on-Don on Tuesday.

"The atmosphere at the Rostov Arena is amazing! A perfect stadium, and perfect fans. Rostov-on-Don citizens were rooting for us, because we have three guys from FC Rostov in our team [defenders Sverrir Ingi Ingason and Ragnar Sigurdsson, and forward Bjorn Sigurdarson]. This World Cup was a wonderful journey for our team. Unfortunately this journey has come to its end," Sigurdsson told journalists.

Iceland, who were making their first appearance at the FIFA World Cup, failed to qualify for the knockout stage, as they finished bottom of Group D with one point.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
