MEXICO CITY, June 7 (Sputnik) - An Ecuadorian judge ruled Wednesday to ban the head of the local football federation, Carlos Villacis, from going to Russia for this month’s World Cup, media said.
Villacis and several other football officials are under investigation for suspected corruption over irregularities in the process of awarding World Cup broadcast rights, Ultima Hora reported.
Russia’s first-ever FIFA World Cup tournament will be held from June 14 to July 15. The Ecuadorian team will not compete.
