NIZHNY NOVGOROD, July 2 (Sputnik) - Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel said on Sunday that the referees did not like his team in their World Cup Round of 16 match against Croatia.
The match, which was held in Nizhny Novgorod, saw Croatia win through on penalties. The two teams drew 1-1 after extra time, but Croatia won 3-2 on penalties, with the man of the match Schmeichel saving two efforts during the shootout and a penalty from midfielder Luka Modric in the final minutes of the extra time.
"I think today we had the opportunity, I think we were the better team in the second half and also in the extension. I don't think we were lucky today. I don't think referee liked us very much," Schmeichel told journalists.
Croatia will now play against Russia in the quarter-final game on July 7 while Denmark left the tournament.
