Russia lost 4-3 on penalties in the quarterfinals against Croatia and were eliminated from this summer's tournament. Fedor Smolov and Mario Fernandes both failed to score in the penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 after extra time.

Reaching the quarterfinals was Russia's best result at the World Cup since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

"As for the team’s performance, I was so worried, my heard was pumping. We did everything we could from the stands to push the team forward. The players gave their all on the pitch, 100% and I would grade them with an ‘A’. I would give them ‘A+’ if they advanced, but still [its’ an] ‘A’," Dvorkovich told journalists.

He added that the national team has a chance to achieve "great results at UEFA Euro 2020" and that the remaining four matches of the tournament will have the same "great organization as the previous 60."

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
