Former Soviet and Russia forward and 1994 FIFA World Cup joint-top goalscorer Oleg Salenko told Sputnik on Sunday that France forward Kylian Mbappe and Croatia captain Luka Modric deserved to receive the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball Award as this year's tournament's best player.
"Croatia have a very good squad, its level is comparable to the 1998 squad. It helped Croatia to reach the World Cup final. The Golden Ball will be awarded to the one who becomes the World Cup champion. Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric deserve to become the tournament's best player. The one who shines in the final, the one who scores the winner can count on the award," Salenko said.
Salenko added that he would be supporting Croatia in the final despite France being favorites to win the match.
