MOSCOW, July 15 (Sputnik) - Croatia midfielder and captain Luka Modric said on Sunday that he was pleased to be awarded with the Golden Ball, an award presented to the best player at each FIFA World Cup final, but would have preferred to have won the World Cup.
Croatia suffered a 4-2 defeat in the World Cup final against France at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
"At least, we weren't worse than France, I would even say we were better. But several moments decided the game's result. The Golden Ball? Of course, I'm pleased as it's a great award, but I would prefer the World Cup trophy," Modric told journalists.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday with 64 games played in 11 cities across the country.
